AUSTRALIA

The national police force for the Republic of Ireland is the Garda Síochána. Irish police are generally unarmed.
UNITED KINGDOM
The first modern police force was the London Metropolitan Police which was formed in 1829. However, there are over 50 different police forces in the UK, with a range of responsibilities (not only territorial). UK police are generally unarmed.
UNITED STATES
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other federal agencies enforce federal (national) laws often specializing in certain crimes. Most crimes, however, fall under the jurisdiction of state or local police fources, of which there are a considerable number.
